During the month of August there is a whole week designated Nationally to celebrate America’s Health Centers: Home of America’s Health Care Heroes. The theme this year was superheroes and our staff here at the Molokai Community Health Center celebrated by dressing up all week wearing masks and capes. We also hosted a FREE Community Event on August 17, that provided a Chili Dinner, Smoothies, a Water Infusion station Popcorn and a Movie. All food items were donated or sourced locally. We also held raffle drawings for our patients and community members to show our Aloha for their continuous support.
The goal of National Community Health Center Week is to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers over the past five decades. Health centers serve 27 million patients a number that continues to grow along with the demand for affordable primary care. In addition health centers produce innovative solutions to the most pressing health care issues in their communities and reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to address the social determinants of health affecting special patient populations. Here at the Molokai Community Health Center we are working towards providing additional programs and services to our Molokai community that includes Traditional Hawaiian healing practices, Lomi Lomi massage, as well as Lifestyle Wellness. These innovative options for health care are well on their way to being available as contemporary yet traditional options for our patients.
